The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis MD 21401

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 46 - Statewide Commission on the Crisis in Nursing - Study of the Use of Technology to Assist Nurses in Caring for Patients.

This bill requires the Statewide Commission on the Crisis in Nursing to develop recommendations on identifying a technology driven point of care application. This is done in consultation with an individual with expertise in technology driven point of care applications, to maximize nursing productivity and increase the quality of patient care and to improve the work environment infrastructure in health care facilities.

House Bill 590, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 46.

Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
