The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis MD 21401

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 706 - Dorchester and Talbot Counties - State's Attorney - Salary and Duties.

This bill sets the salary of the State's Attorney for Talbot County to 80 percent of the salary of a judge of the District Court of Maryland. The bill also requires the State's Attorneys in Dorchester and Talbot Counties to serve full-time and prohibits each from engaging in the private practice of law.

House Bill 238, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 706.

Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
