Health Care Malpractice Claims - Division of Lawyers' Fees - Prohibition

Synopsis:

Prohibiting a lawyer from dividing a fee in a health care malpractice claim with another lawyer who is not in the same firm unless the division is in proportion to the services performed by each lawyer, the client is advised of and does not object to the participation of all the lawyers involved, and the total fee is reasonable; and making a violation of the Act subject to disciplinary sanctions as the Maryland Rules provide.
