State Tobacco Tax - Smoking and Cancer Prevention Fund - Poverty Grants for Schools

Synopsis:

Increasing the tobacco tax rate from 36 to 61 cents per package of 20 cigarettes; reducing the discount allowed a wholesaler for tax stamps; dedicating the additional tax revenue resulting from the increase for Fiscal Years 1997 and 1998 to specified purposes; providing for a program to encourage and assist tobacco growers to convert tobacco farmland to other productive uses; providing for poverty grants to local school boards; providing specified grants for smoking and cancer prevention programs; etc.
