Juvenile Justice - Mental Health and Substance Abuse Screening and Assessment

Synopsis:

Requiring a juvenile justice intake officer, within a specified period of time, to refer for a mental health and substance abuse screening a child who is the subject of a specified complaint; requiring a comprehensive mental health or substance abuse assessment of the child under specified circumstances; requiring the officer to take the assessment into account in making a determination concerning the best interest of the child; and requiring the Secretaries of Juvenile Justice and Health and Mental Hygiene jointly to adopt regulations.
