Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 301.

Current law contains a specific statute for the handling of charges filed against law enforcement officers and educators. This bill adds "emergency services personnel" to the current statute for handling charging documents.

House Bill 537, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 13, 1999, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 301.
