Children - Joint Legal Custody and Equal Parenting Time - Preference

Synopsis:

Requiring a court in initial or permanent child custody proceedings involving the parents of a child to first consider an award of joint legal custody and physical custody of the child for approximately equal periods of time for each parent; requiring a court to make a written finding or specific finding on the record if the court does not make such an award; and providing that the Act does not preclude the court's consideration of other provisions of the law.
