Circuit Court Judges -- Appointment and Term of Office

Synopsis:

Proposing amendments to the Constitution of Maryland relating to the selection and tenure of circuit court judges; repealing provisions relating to election of circuit court judges; requiring the Governor to fill a vacancy in the office of a judge of a circuit court by appointment, subject to Senate confirmation; providing for retention elections following confirmation by the Senate; authorizing reappointment of a judge at the end of a judge's term; and altering the term of office of circuit court judges from 15 to 10 years.
