Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed Senate Bill 293 - Baltimore City - Sheriff's Office - Appointed Positions.

This bill decreases from 17 to 16 the number of command staff deputy sheriff positions appointed by the Sheriff of Baltimore City by: (1) repealing the positions of administrative officer II sheriff and fiscal associate II sheriff; and (2) adding the position of assistant sheriff.

House Bill 339, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 293.
