Rent Control - Local Government Preemption

Synopsis:

Prohibiting a local government from enacting, maintaining, or enforcing a law, ordinance, or regulation that is designed to control the amount of rent charged for leasing private residential or commercial property; providing that the Act does not impair the right of a local government to control residential property in which the local government has a property interest; repealing specified provisions of law authorizing Frederick County and Washington County to control the increase of rent; and defining "local government".
