May 26, 2004

The Honorable Michael E. Busch
Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis, MD 21401

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 778 - Wicomico County - Alcoholic Beverages - Licenses and Open Containers.

This bill authorizes the Wicomico County Board of License Commissioners to issue a caterer's license for a fee of $550 to a holder of a Class B restaurant or hotel (on-sale) beer and light wine license. It authorizes a holder of a Class B beer and light wine catering license to provide beer and light wine at events off the Class B licensed premise, which authorizes the Board to issue a special beer festival license for participation in a beer festival on nonlicensed premises in the county.

Senate Bill 681, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 11, 2004, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 778.

Very truly yours,
Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
Governor
