Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 262.

This bill allows a county or municipality to grant a partial or full corporation property tax credit for a vacant or underutilized building if the building was built primarily for commercial purposes, was last used for commercial purposes, and has been renovated to be used primarily as housing.

Senate Bill 395, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 13, 1999, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 262.
