Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 281 - Maryland Teacher Scholarships.

This Administration bill increases the annual award amount for the Maryland Teacher Scholarship Program from $1,000 to $2,000 for a student enrolled at a two-year eligible institution and from $3,000 to $5,000 for a student enrolled in a four-year eligible institution.

Senate Bill 205, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me today, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 281.
