Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1069 - Electric Cooperatives - Services and Governance.

The bill repeals and reenacts certain sections of Chapter 179 of the Acts of 1976 which set guidelines for the formation and operation of electric cooperatives in the State of Maryland. The Department of Legislative Services is required to prepare legislation by January 1, 2002 to transfer the relevant provisions of these Session Laws to the Annotated Code of Maryland.

Senate Bill 524, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 1069.
