Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 874 - Disposition of Settlement Proceeds - Frostburg State University and the Washington Redskins.

This bill requires Frostburg State University to deposit proceeds from its $750,000 settlement with the Washington Redskins directly into the endowment funds managed and maintained by the University System of Maryland. The proceeds must be used exclusively for the benefit of Frostburg State University.

House Bill 1399, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 874.
