Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1255 - Law Enforcement Officers' Pension System - Membership - Salisbury Fire Department.

This bill provides specified firefighters and paramedics, who are employed by the Salisbury Fire Department, membership in the Law Enforcement Officers' Pension System. It specifies the procedural requirements, which a participating governmental unit must meet, to have its firefighters or paramedics participate in the Law Enforcement Officers' Pension System.

Senate Bill 504, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 11, 2004, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 1255.
