Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 49.

This bill extends the termination date of the State Board of Dental Examiners from July 1, 1999 to July 1, 2006 in accordance with the "sunset review" process. The bill also adds one consumer member to the board, increasing the total number of members to 15. In addition, it establishes a Dental Hygienist Rehabilitation Committee.

Senate Bill 209, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on April 27, 1999, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 49.
