The Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr.
Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis MD 21401
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 441.
This bill adds members of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to the list of qualified volunteer fire, rescue, or emergency medical services members who are entitled to a $3,500 income tax subtraction modification for volunteer services. The subtraction modification is allowed only if the volunteers meet specified qualifications, such as having been an active member for at least 72 months during the last 10 calender years.
Senate Bill 655, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on
May 13, 1999, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 441.
Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
