Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 147 - Kent County - Sheriff's Salary.

This bill increases the annual salary of the Sheriff of Kent County from $40,000 to $45,000 beginning in January 2003, and will increase by $1,000 in each of the next three calendar years.

Senate Bill 84, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on April 25, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 147.
