Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 259 - Morticians - State Board of Morticians - Membership.

This bill prohibits the State Board of Morticians from having more than one member who is employed by or affiliated with, directly or indirectly, the same corporation, professional association or other entity that owns one or more funeral homes. The bill allows the Governor to remove an appointed member who causes the board to be in violation of this provision.

Senate Bill 251, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on April 25, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 259.
