Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 179 - Workers' Compensation - Calculation of Hearing Loss.

This bill specifies the method by which hearing loss may be calculated for workers' compensation purposes. The bill lowers the threshold hearing for a compensable injury by increasing the specified frequencies over which hearing loss is measured.

House Bill 827, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 11, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 179.
