The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.
President of the Senate
State House
Annapolis MD 21401

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 796 - Baltimore City - Alcoholic Beverages - Closing Hours for Licensed Premises.

This bill clarifies that premises licensed to sell alcoholic beverages in Baltimore City must cease all operations at the closing hour designated for its class of license. The Board of Liquor License Commissioners of Baltimore City may grant an exemption to allow: (1) the holder of a Class B restaurant license to continue serving food to seated patrons; or (2) a pharmacy to continue filling prescriptions and selling products other than alcoholic beverages.

House Bill 1154, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 11, 2000, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 796.

Sincerely,
Parris N. Glendening
Governor
