Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed House Bill 181 - Sheriffs - Disposal of Property - Holding Period.

This bill alters from one year to 90 days the period of time that abandoned or recovered property is required to be in the possession of the sheriff before the sheriff may dispose of the property after giving the notices required by law.

Senate Bill 131, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 181.
