Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed House Bill 419 - Transportation - Vehicle Laws - Maximum Vehicle Width and Length.

This bill provides for the calculation of the width of a motor home or a travel trailer and authorizes the State Highway Administration and local authorities to restrict the width of vehicles traveling on specified highways in their jurisdiction under specified circumstances. It increases the maximum length of a bus or Class M motor home when operated on specified highways or routes and the maximum length of a specified maxi-cube vehicle. Senate Bill 747, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 419.
