Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed House Bill 811 - Criminal Law - Extortion by Government Officer or Employee - Persons Subject to Offense.

This bill expands the category of officers or employees who are subject to specified provisions relating to extortion and expands the category of employment from which a person convicted of extortion is barred. Senate Bill 386, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 811.
