The Honorable Michael E. Busch
Speaker of the House
State House
Annapolis, MD 21401
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed House Bill 929 - Education - Baltimore City Public Schools - Facilities.
This bill repeals specified provisions of law requiring the transfer of public school buildings from the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners and also repeals a requirement that Baltimore City and the Baltimore City Public School System prepare a specified plan. The bill also repeals a requirement that prohibits the State from funding capital improvements to public school buildings in Baltimore City after 2009.
Senate Bill 766, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 929.
Very truly yours,
Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
Governor
